WHAT’S UP FOR 2023?

Recently I was told a story of a fly desperately trying get outdoors through a closed window. No matter how hard it tried, the glass wasn’t penetrable. Its life depending on its escape so intensified its fervor that it stayed obsessed in that one spot fighting to get out.

That will and determination is what the fly believes is the only way to succeed. But it is the thing that is causing it to fail; because on the other side of the room is an open door with free access to the life the fly must have to live. Confident that it is doing the right thing is exactly what stands in its way to success.

Thinking we just need to work longer, harder, do more of the same thing, or do it slightly differently is what keeps us going even though it isn’t leading to the results we want. Determined that our way is the right way, whether it works or not, can be our demise.

What if, like the fly, all we had to do was look in another direction, act in a different way, or ask new questions? Nothing hard, nothing we can’t do if we allow ourselves to open up to the possibility that what we believe may not be the only solution. What if there is another way if we just took a minute to consider it?

Attributed to Albert Einstein is the saying that “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

This year my goal is to look at my life with the possibility that there is another way to get the results I want. What if there is a different way, a better way, an easier way and I ignore it because I think my way is the right way?

This year, I’m staying open to see what I can learn.

I wish you all the happiest of New Years!
